Grandma and Grandpas
So tomorrow I'm cruising down to my Grandma and Grandpa's house in Beaver Dam, Arizona. Beaver Dam is a little town between St. George, Utah and Mesquite, Nevada that consists of about 100 or so houses, mostly owned by retirees that come down from Utah every winter for the warm weather. It's about as "classic desert town" as you get, nothing but miles and miles of flat roads and dusty desert. The weather there in the winter is great, high 60's - mid 70's all winter long but the summers can easily get over 110 degrees on a regular basis. That's why my grandma and grandpa, like most Beaver Damians have two homes. One in Midway, Utah for the summer, and one in Beaver Dam for the winter. Their in 70+ degree weather all year long.
Anyway, usually I go down to Beaver Dam with a friend or two so that we can also go to Las Vegas which is only about an hour and a half drive away. We also go into Mesquite quite a bit to gamble and eat the triple 7. The triple 7 for those of you that don't know is one of those insane casino food deals, it's a 20 oz t-bone steak, about 10 sides (baked potato, steamed veggies, etc.), dessert and a beer all for only $7.77, and take my word for it... It's damn good too.
This year however I will be going down by myself. I will be taking my little sister and her friend but I don't plan on spending much time with them once I am actually down there. I'm going to take my grandpa's mini-van down for him so that he can start to pack everything that they are going to bring back up to Midway when the come back up in a few weeks. Then I'm going to drive it back up to Midway for him so everything is there and ready to go when he arrives. I'm going to be leaving tomorrow sometime in the late afternoon and be back Sunday night, the same night Mckell gets back from California. Which reminds me...
Mckell is in California right now for the national DECA competition. She did a presentation on a voting program her and a few of her friends put together back during the elections and her teacher liked it so much he told her she should compete in state DECA, even though she had never been a part of DECA before. Figuring what the hell she decided to go ahead and do it and won state for her competition. Now she is out in California competing in the national competition. She seems to think that she doesn't have a chance, but I'm not so sure that's the case. Either way she gets a free trip to Cali, tickets to Disneyland and Universal Studios (where she is as I type this) and just a vacation in general. Pretty lucky... Anyway, she left yesterday and will be back on Sunday evening, for a total of 6 days hence why I am going to my grandma and grandpa's. If she gets a vacation, I figure I should get one too!
