Awwwe Shit!

Hold on a minute while I collect myself... *sniff, sniff* ok, I think I'm ready now...
It's beautiful! In case you don't know what your looking at, your looking at the brand new Playstation 3! It was unveiled today and all the specs were given at an electronics convention called E3 in Los Angeles, California. I just got done reading a 10 page article on the new Playstation and I'll try to sum it up for you quickly. Xbox 360 fans, you might want to stop here and save yourself a shred of dignity.
First off the PS3 will use Blu-Ray DVD discs, a new format of DVD meant to replace the current form of DVD. Blu-Ray DVD's can hold about 7x the amount of data a regular DVD can hold. Lets see that, uhh yeah... 7x more than Xbox 360 games will be able to hold!
The Playstation 3 will also be able to burn DVD's. This could be used for many different things, but many are thinking PS3 will contain some sort of TiVo like function with the ability to then burn shows onto DVD. Xbox 360 just has a standard DVD player with no burning capabilities.
Playstation 3 will use bluetooth wireless controllers with the capability to run up to 8 controllers at once. Xbox uses a RF wireless technology which is much less versatile than Bluetooth. Bluetooth also has much longer battery life.
PS3 uses a single 3.2 GHz cell processor. Now some may say "yeah, well Xbox 360 has 3, 3.2 GHz processors", well the difference is in the type of processors, PS3 uses a cell processor, a brand new state of the art processor that isn't being used in personal computers yet. Oh and yeah, it can perform over twice the amount of calculations per second as the Xbox 360's 3 processors. It also has 256MB system RAM 3.2GHz, and 256MB GDDR VRAM at 700MHz. Basically that translates into a hell of a lot more power than Xbox 360.
It will be backward compatible with ALL Playstation models, even the original Playstation. Xbox officially claims it doesn't know weather Xbox 360 will be backward compatible at this point and now it's looking like it probably won't be.
It will have a state of the art nVidia graphics processor which will be called the RSX (”Reality Synthesizer”), and will trump the Xbox 360 with 1080p (yes, that’s a p) graphics support. This means Playstation 3 will be true high definition (HD) as opposed to Xbox 360 which is only 780p (a half-assed HD used on cheaper HD TV sets).
It also has 6 USB 2.0, memory stick, compact flash and SD card slots.
I could go on and on but there's about a million other blogs doing that right now, I wanted to give a quick and accurate comparison between the Xbox 360 and Playstation 3. In all seriousness the Playstation is looking like it is going to absolutely destroy Xbox and even some of the Xbox blogs are saying so. I read one earlier that said "at this point we have to rely on the game developers to produce more enjoyable and funner to play games". This spells death of the Xbox to me. Xbox has never had better games than Playstation and everyone knows it. Good luck Xbox!
All I can say is it feels pretty damn good to be a Playstation man right now.

I know it's been a few months since you posted this, but I've only just read it, and, well...
A couple of points to do with your post really, just in terms of maintaining its 100% accuracy.
:D
Blu-Ray is a separate type of medium from HD-DVD, it's backed by different industry players and the manufacturing process differs from HD-DVD, so while it works in principle in a similar way to DVD and the forthcoming HD-DVD, it's not DVD. The DVD Forum is due to ratify the next generation of DVD, HD-DVD, very soon (and hence why Sony is pushing for Blu-Ray - which it's backing - to gain market dominance, as they have a lot interest in terms of putting out films and suchlike on Blu-Ray, as Warner Bros and other studios are getting in bed with them financially... Read more about HD-DVD vs. Blu-Ray on CDFreaks: http://www.cdfreaks.com/article/186).
In essense, one of the PS3's main reasons for being is that it's a heavily-subsidised Blu-Ray player.
While the PS3 might support 1080p, not many TVs do, as again, the 1080p standard wasn't agreed upon until after High-Def displays were already in production, so manufacturers had to retroactively incorporate support for 1080progressive. 720p still looks bloody good though, and remember if you don't have a 1080p monitor, all you'll see is 720p as the PS3 will downgrade the output signal.
Oh, and the PS3 has SDMI integrated into the signal path, so don't think you can just go and plug it into any device you like - it has to be a 'friendly' device, one which the PS3 wants to pair with, in order to view the high-def output. Don't think you can just rip those Blu-Ray films direct from the high definition source to a DVD Recorder plugged into the PS3's output, because all you'll see is either a black screen or a very degraded quality signal (we're talking the same quality as TV is today) if the DVD publisher has chosen to work the SDMI protection like that.
The PS3 is a very tasty little device though, all said, though I'm still in two minds as to whether I'll ever buy another piece of hardware or music from them or any of their subsidiary companies, thanks to this recent rookit fiasco. Shame, because their new Bravia flatscreens looke yummy. Maybe they'll have redeemed themselves (though not likely) by the time the PS3 ships.
Hell, I might buy a 360 and a PS3, and have them running side by side. Delicious! Hope you appreciate the constructive criticism, as the rest of the article is very good ;) (and kudos for owning a Mac :D )

Oh, erm, I missed this.
"Doubt cast over Playstation 3 backwards compatibility":
http://www.eurogamer.net/article.php?article_id=61430
Snippet from the article:
Doubt has been cast over whether the PlayStation 3 will be fully backwards compatible, despite earlier claims that the next-generation console will play both PlayStation and PS2 games.
Speaking to the IDG News Service, Sony spokesperson Reiko Sakamoto said: "It's hard to say the PlayStation 3 will be 100 per cent backwards compatible."
"But as we said earlier this year, we aim to make it so as much as possible."
Sakamoto's comments came after Sony published a list of games which are not compatible with the new silver slimline PS2 console, due to go on sale in Japan next month. A total of 38 PSone and nine PS2 games were listed, including Tekken 5, Hitman: Contracts and Resident Evil.
The 360 is gonna experience similar problems, I'd no doubt expect. Granted also, this news is fairly recent, so it's reasonable that you wrote what you did in the article about it being fully backwards-compatible. ;)
Again, constructive criticism! \o/ Not just trolling, been enjoying reading the rest of your blog.
Ez :)
